The Kanmon Straits Fireworks Festival is held every year on August 13th in the Kanmon Straits, which separate Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, and Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. Approximately 15,000 fireworks can be enjoyed from both sides of the strait.

Sarakurayama is a mountain situated almost in the center of Kitakyushu City, with an elevation of 622 meters. It is known as a scenic spot where one can enjoy a panoramic view of the Kitakyushu cityscape and the Kanmon Straits. The night view is particularly beautiful and is counted among the “Three Great Night Views of Japan.” Access to the summit is available not only by road but also by ropeway.
