Things to do in Kitakyushu at Night (Nightlife)

The “Mojiko Retro Romantic Illumination” is an illumination event held in the Mojiko Retro district in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture. This event lights up the historical buildings and retro streetscapes of Mojiko, creating a fantastical atmosphere at night. In particular, the Mojiko Retro district, lined with retro buildings, vividly retains the ambiance of the Taisho era to the early Showa period, and its lighting enhances the charm, captivating many visitors.

This is an illumination event held in the center of Kokura Kita Ward in Kitakyushu City. During the winter season, especially towards Christmas, the city is decorated with dazzling lights. Various light-ups are conducted at multiple spots, including around Kokura Castle and shopping streets, allowing you to enjoy a fantastical atmosphere.

Sarakurayama is a mountain situated almost in the center of Kitakyushu City, with an elevation of 622 meters. It is known as a scenic spot where one can enjoy a panoramic view of the Kitakyushu cityscape and the Kanmon Straits. The night view is particularly beautiful and is counted among the “Three Great Night Views of Japan.” Access to the summit is available not only by road but also by ropeway.

Mekari Park overlooks the Kanmon Straits, and from its second observation deck, visitors can view the bridge, mountains on the opposite shore, and ships passing through the straits. The view at dusk is particularly known to be spectacular.
