The Kanmon Straits Fireworks Festival is held every year on August 13th in the Kanmon Straits, which separate Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, and Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. Approximately 15,000 fireworks can be enjoyed from both sides of the strait.

2. わっしょい百万夏まつり
Wasshoi Hyakuman Summer Festival
This is one of Kitakyushu City’s representative summer festivals, with a main event of a large parade involving about 10,000 participants from all over the city. The Wasshoi Hyakuman Summer Festival is created by the local residents and showcases various performances such as a collective dance and drum playing. It is a lively festival celebrating summer with the community coming together.

3. 皿倉山展望台
Sarakurayama Observatory Panoramic observation deck with a panoramic view of the city of Kitakyushu

Sarakurayama is a mountain situated almost in the center of Kitakyushu City, with an elevation of 622 meters. It is known as a scenic spot where one can enjoy a panoramic view of the Kitakyushu cityscape and the Kanmon Straits. The night view is particularly beautiful and is counted among the “Three Great Night Views of Japan.” Access to the summit is available not only by road but also by ropeway.
